Equanimity, a gift of the river.
Indifference is the near enemy of equanimity. Both appear as cool, calm and collected. Two ways of being, actual opposites. Beneath indifference there is no feeling, a nothingness.
I am not indifferent to the cold. Cold river dipping involves things uncomfortable and aversive. Equanimity feels the pain, understands it, absorbs it, lets it go. In this, the pain loses its power. In equanimity there is hope.
