John Miedema is an Artist, Writer, and Technologist.
I grew up in a traditional print shop. I helped my father set lead type and hand-print wedding invitations on a letterpress. Today, as an artist, I mix image and text on print and digital canvases.
As a youth, I participated in the Katimavik volunteer program. It taught me the values of the outdoors, community, and volunteering. I worked for ten years as an advocate for survivors of domestic abuse and for people with disabilities. Diversity, inclusion, and social justice feature in my work.
I have twenty-five years in digital product design, solution architecture, and web application development. Highlights include researching universal access of Central Bank Digital Currency for the Bank of Canada, designing cognitive applications for IBM Watson Group, and developing a WordPress plugin for the Internet Archive. I continue to design ethical hacks and offer invention ideas.
I have published research and patented a search technology. I have a Masters of Library and Information Science and an Honour’s Psychology degree, both from Western University. My CV is on LinkedIn.
